*******************

EWER in pewter known as "in Mars helmet", with flared throat, pinched spout, C-shaped handle with draped crook and pedestal with knot decorated with a frieze of gadroons, the body is decorated with a thick rod at the top and a series of fleur-de-lis tabs on an amati background at the base. The middle part is engraved with an armorial type motif.
Control hallmark: FF crowned / 1709 / TOL (FF means fine pewter and TOL for Tolosa, the old name of the city).
Height: 26 cm.
TOULOUSE, First half of the 18th century.

In very good condition, free from deformation and restoration. This is one of the very beautiful models of French pewter goldsmith production, bearing a perfectly legible control hallmark.
The royal edict of 1691 establishing this control hallmark was not regularly respected throughout the kingdom and particularly in Toulouse. To date, we only know two vintages for this center, that of 1691 used until 1708 and that of 1709. The latter was used for part of the century and therefore does not allow us to precisely date the objects that bear it.
