"17th Century - Tuscany - Conventual Box In Wood Covered With Decorated Paper Peigné Ondulé"
Splendid and very rare conventual box in beech wood covered with marbled decorated paper, of the “peigné ondulé” type.
As for the historical-geographical location, in the 17th century, we are on the border between the provinces of Arezzo and Perugia.
The lid still has the seals, used to secure the contents, probably a document or a bubble of some importance.
The paper, very rare in an object of use even if liturgical, is in good condition with some lack clearly highlighted in the photos. Inside it is excellently preserved.
The wood is in excellent condition and has no damage, thanks also to the paper coverings which were then glued with animal glue, an additional protection.
Note the fold of the edges, made by carving the wood, curving it by hand around the base, and then securing it to it with nails.
An object of great taste, very decorative due to the splendid polychrome decorations.
