Early 16th Century - Germany - Polychrome Wood Sculpture Depicting Christ The Judge

Sculpted bust depicting Christ the Judge, of German origin and dating back to the first half of the 16th century. The sculpture, characterized by hard and decisive lines, depicts Christ the Judge with physical features that are sometimes almost caricatural, such as the facial expression, beard and hair. The left hand, with the index finger pointing downwards as if to judge the man (who is below him), is a characterizing part of what is mentioned above. Overall, the work is a very rare, fascinating and curious sacred representation. The executive quality remains undoubted. The conditions are good: the colour has only been consolidated and the woodworm holes have been treated before they caused damage to the wood. The halo has not survived. Dim. cm 16.5 x 11 x 18.5H
