"Early 16th Century - Central Italy - Polychrome Wooden Corpus Christi"
Exceptional wooden Corpus Christi from the early 16th century.
The details of the arms, feet and face, as well as the bust, place this piece in the mid-1400s.
Also observing the perizonium, it is believed that the crucifix belongs to the transition period between Gothic and Renaissance, therefore placing it in the very early 1500s.
The expressiveness of Christ's face in the serene abandonment to pain is extraordinary.
The color scheme still shows traces of blood red at the height of the side and feet.
The arms (original and complete) have been reattached at shoulder height, but there are no missing parts, thus achieving complete continuity and completeness in form and not affecting the condition of the work.
The only missing parts can be found in some fingers.
