Giovanni Fattori, "Soldiers and Horses," Indian ink on paper, signed, 19th Century
Indian ink drawing on paper made by master Giovanni Fattori (Livorno, 1825 - Florence, 1908), one of the main exponents of the Macchiaioli current. The sheet, measuring 44 x 31.5 cm, depicts a scene of soldiers with horses along a country road, a recurring setting in the artist's repertoire.
The stroke is decisive and synthetic, but at the same time rich in expressiveness and movement, as is typical of Fattori's graphic production.
The work is signed at lower right, an element that confirms its attribution.
The drawing is framed with a period gilded frame, enhanced by a warm tone passe-partout that enhances the paper yellowed by time, giving it an authentic charm.
