"Small Louis XVI Chest Of Drawers – Regional Work From Eastern France, Late 18th Century "
Charming two-drawer chest of drawers in veneer and solid wood, typical of refined provincial work from the late 18th century, probably originating from Franche-Comté or Lorraine. The uprights and crosspieces are in solid walnut, with fluted sheathed feet. The softwood panels (fronts, sides and top) are veneered with plane burl, a decorative wood prized for its cloudy and swirling figures. This luminous veneer is framed by a two-tone strip of maple and black-stained wood, then highlighted by plum curling arranged in a herringbone pattern, giving the whole a very elegant decorative rhythm. The combination of these local species—walnut, plum, plane—testifies to mastered regional know-how, halfway between artisanal tradition and the influence of the Parisian Louis XVI style. The locks, bronzes and keyholes are period, in perfect working order. A piece of character, authentic and full of charm.
