"Baroque Concert - Dutch School Workshop Johannes Mytens"
This large oil on canvas is probably a work of the workshop of Jan Mytens. To the left, a couple of aristocrats, richly dressed, attends a concert on the terrace of a palace. The man, wearing a large hat stitched with ostrich feathers, address a loving look in elegant young. The latter is wearing a pink silk dress / coral (Mytens favorite color he uses for men's suits in other works: "Willem van den Kerckhoven family portrait" or "portrait Adriaan Pauw "). Under a sky with clouds (specific to the universe of Jan Mytens), a woman sings in beating time, while another accompanies the single keyboard harpsichord. The guitarist, seated right, deposited its instrument to the ground and seems to admire the young harpsichordist. Johannes Mytens not these flattering portrait. It attaches to the unique character of his subjects leaving ample room for their personality. Faces painted concessions without offering a real presence. An old label on the frame bears the inscription"belonging to Baron Blanc".

Johannes Mytens or Mijtens (The Hague 1614 - The Hague in 1670) learned painting with his uncle Daniel Mytens Old. Brilliant portrait painter, he also painted many scenes of genres or historical paintings. Influenced by the art of Van Dyck and to a lesser extent that of Peter Lely, his subjects often pose outdoors in front of the palace. Always richly dressed, the characters belong to the Dutch nobility and gentry. Member of the Guild of St. Luke in The Hague since 1639, founded the Jan Mytens Confreria Pictura around 1660. It ended his career and taught the art of portraiture.
