"In Cedar Chest Pyrographed, Venice, Sixteenth Century Renaissance Era"
This chest of cedar rectangular shape is performed according to the technique used in northern Italy during the Renaissance. Cedar wood is pyrographed and decorated with drawings enhanced with ink. The cover has a vermiculations decorated with great finesse surrounding heraldic and fantastic animals with a crest in the middle. The front trunk welcome two historiated scenes in molded frames surrounded by scrolls containing flowers and animals. The sides are equipped with beautiful ornate wrought iron handles and receive a similar decoration. The open lid reveals a very well preserved and legible composition. A framework of small thumbnails mixes grotesque, fantastic animals, mythological figures and hunting scenes. In the center, a procession was organized after the model of a castle. The procession of characters wear towers and poles from which escape is flowering branches, trophies of arms and various subjects, King and ancient goddess. Bel conservation status, original lock.
