Louis-Rémy Robert (1811-1882) is one of the pioneers of photography, it is one of the first French calotypistes. It seems to have been introduced to photography by Regnault, who was his superior in the Sèvres porcelain factory; member of the SFP from 1855. His photographic production consists mainly of landscapes, still lifes and many reproductions of porcelain. He published in 1853 the views of the gardens of the Versailles Palace and the Pars de Saint Cloud. It carries photographs of porcelain pieces made by the Manufacture de Sèvres during the Universal Exhibition of 1855 which our photograph is taken.
