Magnificent Persian Carpet Tabriz from about 1980 Entirely hand-knotted, Vegetable dyes, Pure wool, Size: 3,40mX2,15m A Tabriz carpet is a type of Persian carpet. Tabriz, northwest Iran was a historic center of production of carpets and is a region well known for its carpet court as the Ardabil carpet. After the mid-nineteenth century, Tabriz relaunched its carpet production and became a center of production for export to Europe and elsewhere. The Tabriz carpet has a special importance. It is in the workshops of the city that were manufactured the first carpet for export. After shipping antique carpets abroad, merchants began to produce themselves in workshops, according to the sizes and colors demanded by the European merchants. That may be a reason why this carpet are not distinguished by a particular color. Tabriz is located 600 km from Tehran and is one of the largest cities. It is the capital of the province of Azerbaijan. Here, people of Asari who speak a Turkish dialect live. The city was an important trade and border town for centuries. Other attractions include the Blue Mosque and Grand Bazaar. This carpet was very well done by an expert knotting.
