Spanish painter and sculptor
Born in Tortosa in 1876. Died in Barcelona in 1938.

CERVETO RIBA was born in Tortosa on April 5th of 1876 in an important family of artists. He studied in the workshop of his father Ramon Cerveto (1828 - 1906) and at the Art schools of Barcelona, where his teachers were Cave, Ferran, Urgell et Rigalt. After being remained one season in the monastery carmelitano of Las Palmas, he settled in Madrid to study painting at the Prado Museum.
As a painter, he carried out canvas for the basilicas in Catalonia, landscapes, holy pictures, decorative painting and lively genre scenes. He is the author of the restoration of many religious tables, in particular those of the church of Saint Antoine (1896) and six works of the Holy church Therese of the child Jesus (1907). He collaborated for leading articles and made many illustrations of books and periodicals.
In Madrid he worked one season in the workshop of the famous sculptor Agustín Querol (1863-1909), born in Tortosa and member of artistic society of the city. Cerveto was prepared to join Rome to continue he studies, as he was recalled by Querol. The work of Cerveto with the great Spanish sculptor made of him the best expert and the “joint author” of several works of the artist.
He gained the project devoted to the monument of the tsar Alexander II of Russia on the occasion of the International Competition of St Petersbourg organized in 1911.
