"Jean Laforgue: Orientalist Watercolor"
Jean Laforgue (1901-1975) left many works on the South-West, the Basque Country or, as here in Algeria where he stayed in the 1920s, perhaps on the occasion of his military service. A characteristic feature of the 1920s and 1930s, the charcoal is strongly placed on the sheet and on the line of which watercolor touches come to give volume and depth, sometimes reinforced by gouache which here suggests the whitewashed walls Of this palace ... Of a beautiful format: about 33 X 45 cm, it is presented by a marie-louise in the wash in a frame of the time a little rugged 46 X 57 cm. Some small spots and rednesses, but essentially inside the glass. More pictures and more in our shops in Pau and Biarritz and on our website: galerielhoste.com.
