Painting oil painting on a good panel parqueté (stamped on the back- see photo-) portrait with female figure representing Mme An ... from a castle of Touraine (full information will be provided to the future purchaser). French School XIXe signed JN SYLVESTRE (* Joseph-Noël Sylvestre 1847-1926). Beautiful Louis-Philippe frame in gilded wood with leaf, model with canals decorated with moldings in doucine. Good condition, paint to clean. Dimensions: 52,5 cm X 44 cm. * Joseph-Noël SYLVESTRE was born on June 24, 1847 in Beziers. He is a romantic painter of academic formation whose work is inspired by classical antiquity. He began his artistic apprenticeship with Thomas Couture (painter professor historian) within the Museum from Augustins to Toulouse, before joining the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studio of Alexandre Cabanel, he was awarded the third prize at Rome in 1869. Some famous works: The Death of Seneca 1875 of Beziers). The Gaulois Ducar decapitates the Roman general Flaminius at the Battle of Trasimeno 1882 (Museum of Fine Arts of Béziers), The Sac of Rome by the barbarians 1890 (Sète, Paul-Valéry museum), and François Rude work on the Arc de Triumph 1893.
