This beautiful inkwell is a characteristic work of the ceramist Dalpayrat, notably by his red paste "blood of ox", the octagonal shape inspired, also in his work on inkwells. The original silver lid embraces a silver medal from the engraver "JC Chaplain"; medal celebrating the centenary of the birth of Victor Hugo. Thus, we can easily dated the object 1902-1903.
