A student of Henri Harpignies, Louis Alexandre Cabié was trained in the naturalist movement by Gustave Courbet and Camille Corot. He exhibited at the Salon in 1887. Leader of the landscaping school of Saintonge, he moved to Bordeaux where he spent much of his career as an artist and where he died in 1939.
His landscapes represented mainly Brittany , Bordeaux and its surroundings, the island of Noirmoutier, but also, the Charente Maritime, as evidenced by our painting, representing a beach at Saint Palais sur Mer.
Some of his works are on display at the Museum of Fine Arts in Bordeaux, France. Angers and Chambéry.
