Biography
Jacques Adnet, born Jack Edouard Jules Adnet (1900-1984), was one of the most renowned French architects and decorators of the twentieth century. After studying Fine Arts at the National School of Paris, Jacques Adnet founded in 1919, the Compagnie des Arts Français to which Louis Süe and André Mare joined. It is within this collective that the designer realized art-deco furniture, a style he promoted in the 1920s. To conceive his avant-garde creations, Adnet rested his reflection on three pillars: rationalism, functionalism and cubism. In 1950, Adnet joined forces with Hermès to develop a collection of furniture and accessories covered in leather. President of the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs, Jacques Adnet has played an important role in the evolution of the taste of his time through prestigious orders that earned him the grand prize of the Universal Exhibition of 1958 in Brussels.
