"Drawing XIXth : The Battle Of Taillebourg"
Our job is similar to addiction: when I bought this drawing a few years ago, I was close to the banking ban, but it was out of the question that it is not mine! Some time later, chance made me see a reproduction of Delacroix's famous painting "The Battle of Taillebourg" which is in the Galerie des Batailles at Versailles and whose composition is very similar. Warning ! I do not recognize Master's style and do not think he used this mixture of charcoal and pastel, (though, this might explain that ...) and so do not pretend he's from him. However, the verve and spontaneity of the work, in spite of some traces of folds and the strongly sketched line make me think that it is a great who realized it, perhaps in memory of a visit of the painting? About 15 X 22 cm, I kept the original Marie-louise to make it go up by a pass in a frame of the time to the superb gilding 29 X 35 cm.
