"Nude, Indoor Scene By Emmanuel-henry Thomas De Barbarin"
Oil on wooden panel representing a young naked woman. Parisian interior scene. Emmanuel-Henry Thomas de Barbarin (1821-1892) is a painter of portraits and genre scenes. Pupil of Paul Delaroche and Ary Scheffer, we probably recognize the inspiration of the latter in the orientalist style of the panel. Barbarin began to exhibit in the salon from 1846 until 1878 with mainly drawings and watercolors, we can also highlight the quality of the drawing in the treatment of the nude. His signature visible in the lower right corner "H. Thomas" reflects his early years as a painter since he first worked under the name Emmanuel-Henry Thomas, before adopting his full name in the 1860s Gilt wood frame.
