"Two Friends"
Lavis brown, 27cm x 36 cm

Gallant scene after the painting by Nicolas Lancret "Two Friends", intended with another composition "Nicaise", to illustrate "The Tales and News in Vers "by Jean de La Fontaine in the edition of Nicolas de Larmessin.

Two older men who had tried to claim the paternity of the child, now deny that she has become a pretty girl, hoping to get her favors.

Drawing after the engraving, executed in 1839 by Jeanne-Philiberte Ledoux, former student of Greuze, and exposed after his death by his son Eugéne Ledoux at the Universal Exhibition of 1867 in Paris, in tribute to his mother.
The drawing obtained during the exhibition a bronze medal, presented in the marie-louise.

Sheet pasted on cardboard, marie-louise, unframed.
