"Commode Transition Stamped Louis-noel Malle, Eighteenth Century"
Transition Commode in between two-sided opening with two drawers without cross. Inlaid facade of various attributes including the central panel with musical attributes and framed nets. The side panels are decorated with bouquets of flowers. The panels on the facade are surmounted by a marquetry to the queen composed in part of stained wood. The original white marble top caps the chest of drawers with cut corners. It rests on 4 feet whose curve is accentuated by the contrasting essences. Ornamentation of discrete and refined bronzes, small clogs on the feet. The original lock condemns all two drawers. Stamped Louis-Noel Malle and JME. Epoque Eighteenth, between 1765 and 1782. A similar dresser from the hand of the Master is present at the Carnavalet Museum of Paris: http://parismuseescollections.paris.fr/fr/musee-carnavalet/oeuvres/commode-9#infos-principales Length: 78.5 cm Height: 85 cm Depth: 43.5 cm Louis-Noël Malle is Master in 1765, he works at the Faubourg Saint-Antoine where he is recognized as a notable cabinetmaker. It has a very active workshop and also a cabinet shop. He is mentioned as one of the main marketers of the capital. Malle is particularly known for his commodes with marquetry of flowers, attributes or landscapes. We will find also at his death many pieces inlaid with flowers or attributes and also in lacquered wood. Part of his production figured in a sale of Madame Roussel in 1912.
