Francisque DURET
French sculptor born on October 19, 1804 in Paris where he died on May 26, 1865. Son of François-Joseph DURET (1732-1816) himself sculptor who teaches him his art, he is also a student of François-Joseph BOSIO. Francisque DURET won the price of Rome in 1823 for his bas-relief "Pain of Evandre". Professor at the "Ecole des Beaux Arts" in Paris from 1852 to 1863, he is notably the master of the sculptors Jean-Baptiste CARPEAUX, Jules DALOU, Alphonse LAMI, Edward ANTERI, Jules-Edouard VALTAT. The THIEBAUT FRERES Foundry was one of the most important Art foundries in France during the 19th and 20th centuries. Created by Henri-Léon Thiébaut (1855-1899) and held with his brother, the world-renowned house featured prominently at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889. Their achievements are visible throughout the world. Particularly presents in France, the fonts of the Thiébaut workshops adorn dozens of Parisian squares and gardens, including Place de la République, Place de la Nation or Place Vendôme.
Maison Alfonse GIROUX was a famous shop located at 7, rue du Coq-St-Honoré in Paris. Its activity extended from the Consulate to the end of the Second Empire. It was in this shop that Louis XVIII and Charles X chose the presents of the young princes. François-Simon-Alphonse Griroux founded the shop in 1799 to sell objects of curiosity, tableting, stationery, drawings, paintings, engravings and, of course, cabinetmaking. The Giroux House participated in the exhibition of the products of the French Industry of 1839 where she obtained a silver medal. She provides the Emperor's house with furnitures and many luxury items. The Giroux house was sold in 1867 to Duvinage and Harinkouke.
