Louis of France, Duke of Burgundy son of the Grand Dauphin Louis of France died in 1711, grandson of King Louis XIV (brother of Philip V King of Spain). In 1771 he succeeded the death of his father, the Grand Dauphin, under the title and royal prerogatives of Dauphin of France, who was to succeed the King. He is often called by comparative order the Little Dauphin, still under the reign of his Grandfather Louis XIV. He did not become King because he died of smallpox in 1712, leaving for his sole heir his son Louis of France, Duc d'Anjou, future Louis XV then 2 years old who immediately became the new Dauphin.
