Born in Minnesota in 1934, Wayne Ensrud gained international renown as a painter and printmaker with a remarkable influence on the art world. Ensrud began his professional training at the College of Art and Design in Minneapolis and has since studied under the direction of master painters such as Ben Shahn, Joseph Albers, Jacques Lipchitz and Oskar Kokoschka. Ensrud cites the influence of the latter to guide him in the directness of nature and landscape, as well as in the human figure and the portrait. With a wide range of artistic skills, Ensrud is also known for his non-objective abstract art, with which he increases his own awareness and spectator perception of form, color and assemblage. Ensrud is also an influential voice in the global art community. He was the youngest artistic director of the Motion Pictures Department for the University of California and has been heavily involved in national radio, television and film festivals and organizations. Ensrud has exhibited his work across the United States, Europe and Japan and uses his travels in vineyards, cities and the countryside to explore and refine his paintings.
