Oil on panel
23 x 30 cm
Provenance: workshop Rochegrosse (seal of sale on the reverse).
Educated in a literate environment, in a family frequenting Verlaine, Rimbaud, Victor Hugo and Flaubert, Antoine Rochegrosse began his training as an artist in 1871 at the Académie Julian, with Jules Lefèbvre and Gustave Boulanger as teachers. He finished his studies at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. In 1883 the Prix du Salon allowed him a stay in Italy, then in other European countries. From 1900, he spent most of his winters at El-Biar where he drew inspiration from his Orientalist subjects, which characterize him.
His works are present in a large number of French museums (Fine Arts of Dijon, Lille, Rouen, Reims, Orsay Museum ...) There is a small hole in the panel at the top, due to a nail.
