High-relief carved and gilded carved wood panel, with mother-of-pearl inlay, depicting Asian characters in a garden, probably a Chinese dignitary with his guards and servants visiting a wise man sitting at the water's edge, perhaps the representation of the Eight Immortals Taoist, Chaozhou origin, South China, XIXth century. This panel is in good condition and is very decorative. The high relief is gilded with gold leaf. The part forming the ground is decorated with inlays of mother-of-pearl (lacks). A note: wear and lack of paint in the background, ususers of polychrome and gilding in places, some gaps on the frame, see photos.
