" Mennonite Sampler, Embroidery From 1849."
Large, very dense sampler with cavalry symmetry and overcrowded composition. A label on the back indicates that it would be a Mennonite work. A crowned two-headed eagle could indicate a Russian origin, where indeed, a large part of this community was welcomed at the very end of the eighteenth century. This embroidery is signed in beads of the initials HW and dated 1849. Frame of time and blown glass. Some water stain up and down. 59 x 56 cm, without frame.
