"The procession of the White Penitents in Malaucène"

This large-format work represents a rare historical testimony of the procession of White penitents in Malaucène in 1907, in the climb to go to Calvary. In the background, the Mont Ventoux nicknamed the "Giant of Provence" overlooking the plain of Comtat Venaissin with its vineyards, its terroir of truffles, lavender fields or hilltop villages.
Born in 1875 in Paris, Jacques Bonneau was a student of Charles MENGIN (1853-1933). Painter who was appreciated by the public during the participation to the exhibitions and to the different Salons for its Norman landscapes, Burgundy, South, South-West of France, Holland and Italy which are of a good observations and to scrupulous rendering. His talent is also especially noted for his subtle floral compositions.
