Beautiful work that represents a bucolic and intimate scene between a mother, dressed in the traditional Arlesian dress, and her child. The scene takes place in an undergrowth in Provence, certainly in the vicinity of Nîmes, Arles or Saint-Rémy de Provence where the artist loved a painter.
Our work bearing the number 700bis is part of the exhibition at the Salon National des Beaux-Arts in 1907 where the artist exhibits under the same title and under number 700 a painting called "Little Cradle".
Painter Nîmes, Alexis Lahaye was a student of Isidore Pils and Carolus-Duran. He exhibited in 1876 at the Salon of portraits and landscapes that were noticed and rewarded. For twenty years he directed the Nîmes School of Fine Arts. He has also been curator of the Museum of the City of Nimes and president of the Society of Friends of the Arts.
His works are preserved in various museums: Limoux, Tunis, Paris and Nîmes.
