"Somaskanda Bronze India, Tamil Region, Attributed To The 18th Or 19th Century"
Subject: Representative Somaskanda (aspect of Siva) and Uma [(in Tamil) Parvati (in Sanskrit)]. They are standing on a rectangular base. Somaskanda carries its attributes: the ax or the scepter and an antelope standing on its hind legs. Both deities have a disc at the back of the head. Material: Bronze. Origin: India, Tamil region, attributed to the 18th or 19th century. Condition: Good, brown patina. Dimensions: H_17.9 cm. L_8.5 cm. Parallels: The parallels were found with older bronzes of the Victoria & Albert Museum. Provenance: Former Belgian collection, 21st century.
