"Pair Of Candlesticks Louis XVI"
Pair of candlesticks, gilded and gilded bronze, Louis XVI period. (H x D): 27 x 14.5 cm. This pair of torches was made under Louis XVI according to a known and appreciated model as evidenced by the prints and variations around the model. Our pair has undergone a fine work of carving and browning. The binet is surrounded by a row of pearls found on the base, and is crossed by a frieze with gadroons acanthus tigets. A crown of rushes tied with acanthus surmounted by a third row of pearls is outlined on the pedestal supporting the binet. The stem is fluted, rudent and decorated with caps. The treatment of the circular base responds to the stem, and one finds there the crown of rushes knotted with chiseled acanthes, the channels, the rudentures, the pearls created with the pearl (tool of the chiseler) and placed on top of a sober bandeau burnished. The old gilding is worn but still dense. The bobeches have been brought back, but their decor harmonises perfectly with that of our candlesticks.
