"Anthropomorphic Male Sculpture In Wood - Middle Papua Sepik"
Representing a naked man standing, the buttocks leaning on a seat. The face has a small reddish earthy beard on which the hairs were embedded. New Guinea, Papua Middle Sepik. Maybe Iatmul speaker's seat. Middle 20th century. The man is completely naked, the sex is at rest, wrapped in a little earth in which the pubic hair is encrusted. The torso is scarified, the arms are pendulous and the hands resting on the thighs which are a little inclined. The feet rest on a circular base. This Sepik sculpture is blackish in color, dark brown. Good state of conservation, normal wear for an object of this age. An ear is missing as well as a fragment of the edge of the seat at the back. A crack exists in the base of the base. H: 57 cm Old Belgian collection.
