Superb oil painting on canvas of the Belgian school of the mid-nineteenth representing a sinking ship and directed by Charles Louis VERBOECKHOVEN (1802-1889) Famous Belgian painter known for his marine paintings and views of boats, often represented in a stormy sea or in the storm, Charles Louis worked with his father Barthémy Verboeckhoven and his brother Eugen. He took part in the Paris Salon, notably in 1842, and won medals in Brussels, Cambrai, Arras and Lille. His works are preserved in many museums, including those of Aix-en-Provence, Antwerp, Cambrai or Leipzig. This high quality painting is of great finesse, bright and full of details. In very good original condition and superb quality, signed lower right and in a posterior frame.
