"Middle Fan From The Eighteenth Century."
This 15-strand fan is painted with gouache on paper from a chinoiserie. It presents on the place a fun and picturesque scene where we see on a landscaped background, animated with birds and butterflies, a team on which sits a character. At the front is a perch that supports a few parakeets, in the back a subject holds a parasol, the whole is pulled by a spotted animal carrying wood, presumably a deer. On one side is a musician on a branch and on the other a butterfly foraging a shrub in bloom. On the reverse are painted gouache two branches decorated with flowers. The bone strands have a chiseled decoration and inlaid with silver. The first and the last strand have openwork decoration of geometric motifs also encrusted with silver and presenting in the center a female bust. Some small old restorations and small gaps with silver inlays. Bone and gouache on paper, mid-eighteenth century. Folded length 27 cm
