"Ecole Française fin 18è : Suiveur d'Alexande-François DESPORTES Chien à l'arret devant trophée"
This large oil on canvas (146 x 70 cm) from the end of the 18th century, the beginning of the 19th century, is the work of a follower of Alexandre-François DESPORTES (1661-1743). The latter was a painter of hunting scenes in which he participated in order to retransmit them in all their truth. He was appointed painter of the venery of Louis XIV. Painter of hunting dogs, we can nevertheless say that he was also a portrait painter because his painted dogs are the king's dogs. This scene shows a dog stationary in front of a hare, partridge and fruit hunting trophy in a beautiful balance of greyish green and brown colors. Nature is very present with many trees and foliage spread throughout the scene. Old re-covering and reattachment on a frame. The original canvas includes 2 parts, we can distinguish the meeting by a vertical trace on the left which reveals a separation (see photos). Usual restorations. Posterior golden baguette frame. Good condition Dimensions without frame: L: 146 - H: 70 cm. Dimensions with frame: L: 148.5 - H: 72.5 cm
