Joseph Georges Jeannin, born in Paris on August 24, 1841 and died on December 10, 1925 in the same town (17th arrondissement), was a painter of French still lifes specializing in floral compositions.The son of a building inspector, he was the pupil of Victor Vincelet. He began his career at the Salon of 1868 and exhibited there regularly. He was awarded an honorable mention in 1876, a 3rd class medal in 1878 and a 2nd class medal in 1888. He was also awarded a bronze medal at the 1889 World Exposition and then another At the World Exposition of 1900, both in Paris. The Legion of Honor was awarded in 1903.A renowned specialist in the art of the flower, this master of still lives was particularly renowned for his talent in representing roses.He also realized jointly with Achille Cesbron the decoration of the Salon of the Passage of the City hall of Paris.He was admitted to the Society of French Artists in 1878, a member of the Société Nationale d'Horticulture de France. He chaired the Section des Beaux-Arts from the creation of the latter in 1898 until his death. He was also a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of the Flower.
