Charles Louis Clerisseau is a great painter, draftsman and architect. Prix de Rome in 1746 he contributed to the birth of taste "to the antique" which then gave neoclassicism (Louis XVI ...). Much appreciated by the great European courts, Catherine II bought many drawings from Clérisseau today at the Hermitage Museum. He also made a model for the Virginia Capitol at the request of Thomas Jefferson. Also the castle of Rastignac which inspired the White House.
An exhibition was dedicated to him in 1996 at the Louvre.
