"Bronze Sculpture James Metcalf"
Large and interesting bronze sculpture representing a woman's foot. Signed Dimension without base: 61 cm / 25 Dimensions with base: 69 cm / 25 cm Biography: James Mecalf is an American sculptor born in New York in 1925. He left for Europe with his parents in 1937 and began to take an interest in Various mediaeval techniques. He is very interested in archaic civilizations and is passionate about ancient Greece after meeting the poet Robert Graves. He studied at the Dayton Art Institute, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and London at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. From 1956 to 1957, he set up his studio in Paris, impasse Ronsin, opposite that of Constantin Brancusi who encouraged him. He frequents François Xavier and Claude Lalanne. He traveled to Mexico and in 1966 obtained an exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Mexico City. In 1973 he opened with his wife the Mexican sculptor Ane Pellicer art school Adolfo Best Maugard School of Arts in Crafts.
