"Important Chinese Drawing : "sage On A Saber""
This drawing is interesting in more than one way: besides its extreme virtuosity worthy of the great Chinese Masters of the previous centuries, the absence of signature and the fact that it is on three sheets assembled makes me think that it dates from the period revolutionary where it was not very well seen to paint outside the guidelines of the Party! Moreover, the subject, a noble Chinese warrior sailing (surfing!) On his sword certainly relates to a legend that I did not find.
Painted in Indian ink with a brush on three assembled sheets, heightened with gray, blue and light pink wash, it measures about 78 X 38 cm, has stains, traces of folds and assembly glue, mounted sou marie-louise and rough oak frame 107 X 57 cm.
