"Diane's Rest, Marble Group"
The Rest of Diana, subject carved in marble, eighteenth century. (H x W x D) 42 x 22 x 19 cm. The sculptor, who did not sign his work, chose to represent the rest of the huntress. Her bow and quiver are on the ground as she covers her coat with one hand, and holds her mat on the other. Has she just been surprised by Actéon's bath? The posture, sitting on the rocks overlooking the meadow and the wave, is extended. It gives a great amplitude to the silhouette which ends with the elegance of the placement of the feet. On the back, the foliage of a tree closes the perspective of the composition and ensures to locate it in full forest; the natural environment of the goddess. Accidents, lack, bits of trephine, especially in the foliage.
