Object description :

"Pair Of Bronze Sconces By Claude Galle"
A big pair of scones in gilt bronze of the Empire period.
A cariatide "in the antique style" sheath holds 4 arms of lights. The front part of the wall chandelier represents an old man's head, the back part is decorated with griffins.
Claude Galle delivers in 1808 an identical pair for the Château de Compiègne and for the furniture guard (Mobilier National). A pair (with a finer chiseling) was delivered by merchant Darrac in 1809 for the bedroom of the Empress's apartment at the Rohan Palace in Strasbourg. The pair of scones has an inventory number 41922 and a GM mark.
