"Pierre Gandon : "oriental Family""
Probably seized in southern Morocco or Mauritania, this family whose mother holds a baby in arms whose little sister is at his feet is represented in front of a stylized city background with typical architecture of the desert. Pierre Gandon (1899-1990), Orientalist painter, illustrator and engraver, including intaglio for postage stamps, engraving Prix de Rome in 1921, he made a huge fresco for the colonial exhibition of 1937. Oil on panel 33 X 41 cm, mounted in a herringbone frame 41 X 48 cm ennviron, formerly gilded, but relaqué black over, rubbed revealing the gilding.
