XIXth century ceramic - Edouard GILLES. Earthenware pot holder with japanese decoration. Enamel cloisonné on buff bottoms. Very nice decor of birds, branches, flowers and butterflies. The catch of the flower pot represents elephant heads. Good condition (small accident to the trunk of an elephant). MONOGRAMME EG Faïencier d'Art, Edouard GILLES trained as a painter on porcelain. He was head of workshop at Collinot before settling in 1868 in Paris. His studio was located at 2 Boulevard Jourdan, he produced artistic faience as early as the 1880s.
