"Chalice Pot Ointment Censer Corozo Carved Characters Cherubs Nineteenth"
Small chalice or ointment jar, forming a censer in the top, carved corozo, decorated with multiple characters: couples during gallant scenes, soldiers with flags and spears, cherubs ..., as well as friezes of small flowers, work of bagnard or sailor, XIXth century. This chalice is in good condition, it is of a remarkable quality. It opens in three parts (see last photo). He can therefore make ointment and censer above. The foot is also unscrewed in two parts. A note: tiny little glare at the foot of the foot (see red arrow, very little visible), slight wear time, see photos. ____________________________ * The coconut as the corozo was worked by sailors or convicts. The latter worked to pass the time but also and especially to make a little money to improve their lives. Can also be attributed to sailors on their long journeys. These objects in coconut or corozo are fine examples of folk art. Diameter: foot 7.2 cm / pot 4.7 cm Height: 18.5 cm Reference: E40 1 All photos are on: www.antiques-delaval.com
