Artist: Paul Dubois (1829-1905)
Bronze sculpture, signed on the terrace P. Dubois 1865, F. Barbedienne Foundry, stamp mechanical reduction Collas. Beautiful original medal patina. 19th century.
The statue depicts a Florentine singer of the 15th century playing the mandolin.
A trip to Italy inspired this work to the sculptor, which achieved a great success at the Salon of 1865. The first copy was purchased by Princess Mathilde, who held during the Second Empire one of the most brilliant salons in arts and literary.
A silver-plated statue of 1.55m is displayed at the Musée d'Orsay (Paris).
Paul Dubois, born in 1829 in Nogent-sur-Seine and died in 1905 in Paris, is a renowned French sculptor and painter.
