"Sheepfold"
Sheep represented in their sheepfold around their bucket of water, two hens peck on the straw. Characteristic scene of this Belgian painter specialized in compositions featuring farm animals, including chickens and sheep. Little known for its early death and therefore relatively limited production, it nevertheless makes strikingly this atmosphere of barn and barnyard. Little is known about the life of Jules-Georges Bahieu (about 1860-around 1895), but he worked in Paris and was certainly in contact with Charles Emile Jacque, painter and engraver of the school of Barbizon, friend Jean-François Millet and Théodore Rousseau.
