Born in 1885, Charles Dudouyt began an artistic career after studying at Germain Pilon school. He paints, draws and earns his living by illustrating publications, notably for Calmann-Levy and for the Butter Plate. In 1918, when he returned from the war, he designed and made lampposts, lamp shades and various decorative objects with his wife. This leads him to create in 1920, in Pontoise, a furniture factory.In 1933, he moved to Paris he founded the Mansion which includes a workshop and a shop. He creates the woodwork of the Daunou bar, decorates the apartment of Mistinguett and other celebrities. His style is gradually being refined in forms and ornamentation, and uses the play of light on the veins of wood and the geometry of his furniture. In 1940, he opened with Jean François Lamée the decoration shop "La Gentilhommière" where he presented his furniture as well as the creations of Jean Besnard, Georges Jouve, Jean Despres, Alexandre Noll.
