He participated for the first time in the Salon des Independants in 1923 He then participates in many other salons, including the autumn salon. He has many times represented the northern suburbs of Paris, Saint-Ouen, Montmartre and Clich because he loved the area and his paintings were evidence of life in popular areas during the first half of the century. Raymond Besse has also produced many works on the themes of Normandy and the Loire Valley. It is in the Loir et Cher that he spent his last years and died in 1969.
