August Friedrich Albrecht Schenck, landscape and animal painter, born at Gluckstadt (Duchy of Holstein) on 23 April 1828, died at Ecouen on January 1, 1901 (Danish School.).

This distinguished artist studied with Leon Cogniet at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. He travelled to both England and Portugal, but settled in Ecouen and established his career there. He debuted at the Salon of 1857 and received a medal in 1865 there. He was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in 1885. Schenck painted many winter landscapes, most particularly with horses, dogs and sheep.
