Chas Laborde is a painter of figures, draftsman, engraver, illustrator, watercolourist. He was a pupil in Paris of Henri Royer and Marcel Baschet at the Académie Julian and William Bouguereau and Luc-Olivier Merson at the Beaux-Arts. During his first period, he portrays with acuteness and realism the world of the bourgeoisie. He had a considerable activity as draftsman and engraver-illustrator. He owes to him the result of often bitter observations of street performances in Paris, but also abroad. He illustrated a large number of literary works (Marcel Aymé, Pierre Mac Orlan, Paul Morand, Guy de Maupassant, Laclos, Anatole France, Emile Zola) and other albums.
