Gustave Lemaître is a French painter born in Marseille in 1860.
After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Marseille, he went to study in Paris with Alexandre Cabanel, William Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury.
He exhibited at the salons of French Artists in 1888 and obtained a mention in 1897. He won the same year the Marie Bashkirseff prize.
He moved to Algéria where he exposed to the society of Algerian and Orientalist Artists until his death in 1920 in Alger.
Oil on canvas in good condition, except a little restoration on the back and signed "G Lemaître" upright.
